The Anglo-Georgian Expedition to Nokalakevi (AGEN)

FaRiG helps support AGEN’s work at the village of Nokalakevi in Mingrelia, western Georgia.

The Anglo-Georgian Expedition to Nokalakevi (AGEN) was set up in 2001 by the S. Janashia State History Museum of Georgia and a team of British archaeologists organised from Cambridge University to undertake archaeological excavations at the ancient fortress site at Nokalakevi. It organises a summer excavation at the site and supports Georgian recording and conservation of other monuments in Mingrelia and archaeological finds from all over West Georgia.

The pictures below illustrate some of our activities and recent finds. For more information on AGEN and the multi-phase monument at Nokalakevi and its history, see http://www.nokalakevi.org.
